Have you ever had a business idea you believed in — but felt lost the moment you tried to turn it into a website? You’re not alone. Building a website can sound technical and overwhelming at first, but really, it’s about telling your story online in a clear and friendly way.
In this post, I’ll walk you through my 7- day plan to create a dog walking website called Happy Nose. It’s a practical, beginner-friendly roadmap that helps you go from idea to online in just a week — without the stress, and with the confidence that you can do it yourself.
Ready? Let’s go!
Before you start: Decide the basics – what will be the website’s purpose and what things does it need to feature.
- Pick your site name: Happy Nose (done ✅).
- Jot down the main goals: get local clients, let people book walks, show services & prices, contact form, short blog for trust/SEO.

Day 1: Prep & Setup
Goals: Gather resources and set up the basics.
choose name → register → host → connect
- Decide on domain:
Brainstorm domains (e.g. happynose.co.uk, happynosedogwalking.com).
Check availability. Keep it short, easy to spell. - Register your domain (for example, with Namecheap or Google Domains).
- Buy hosting Pick a simple host with one-click WordPress install (SiteGround, Bluehost, or WordPress.com). Look for: free SSL, easy WordPress install, good reviews.
- Connect the two — so when someone types happynose.co.uk, the browser knows to load the files from your host.
- Set up a professional email address (like hello@happynose.co.uk) through your host or Google Workspace — it helps your business look more trustworthy.
- Collect materials:
- Logo (Canva or free tool)
- Photos (your own dog-walking photos, or stock images)
- Text content (Home hero line, About blurb, Services, Pricing, Contact info, FAQ)
- Logo (Canva or free tool)
Tip: Have all images and text ready in a folder or document so you can copy-paste later.
Day 2: Install WordPress & Theme
Goals: Get WordPress installed and your site’s design started.
- Use your host’s one-click WordPress installer.
- Log in: yourdomain.com/wp-admin.
- Pick a beginner-friendly theme (Astra, Neve, Rife Pro with Unicorn Demo).
Choose a clean, business/creative or multipurpose theme (free option is fine). - Install and activate the theme. Appearance → Themes → Add New or upload the theme zip.
- Optional: import demo content if your theme offers it to see the layout.
Day 3: Essential Plugins & Security
Goals: Add key features and protect your site.
Install only what you need. You can add more later — keep it minimal at first.
Examples of plugin categories and why:
- Install plugins:
- Contact / Booking form contact form and simple appointment/booking plugin so clients can request walks.
(e.g., WPForms, Amelia Lite, or Simply Schedule Appointments) - SEO plugin helps with titles/metadata.(Yoast SEO or RankMath)
- Security plugin basic firewall & brute force protection.(Wordfence or iThemes Security)
- Backup plugin regular automatic backups. (UpdraftPlus)
- Caching / speed plugin speeds up your site. (LiteSpeed Cache or WP Rocket if available)
- Image optimization: reduce file sizes for faster load.(Shortpixel or Imagify)
- Contact / Booking form contact form and simple appointment/booking plugin so clients can request walks.
- Enable SSL (https) — usually free via your host.
- Set a strong admin password.
Day 4: Build Core Pages
Goals: Create the pages users see first.
- Home — short hero (one-line what you do), 3 key benefits, call to action (Book now / Contact). Hero line (Home): Happy Nose — Reliable dog walks in [Your Area]. Safe, friendly, and tailored to your dog’s needs. Call to action: Book a walk / Request availability
- About — who you are, trust details, a photo of you with dogs. About blurb: Hi, I’m [Your Name], a passionate dog walker with X years’ experience. Insured and DBS-checked.
- Services — list of services (solo walks, group walks, visits), durations, coverage area.
Service example: 30-minute solo walk — great for high-energy dogs — £12 per walk. - Pricing — clear prices or “starting from” and how people pay.
- Booking — appointment form or booking widget; explain next steps.
- Contact — phone, email, contact form, service area map.
- FAQ — common questions (insurance, cancellation, dog behaviour).
- Blog — optional, useful for SEO (tips: walking safety, dog care).
- Legal — Terms & Conditions, Privacy Policy (GDPR if you operate in the UK/EU).

Day 5: Visuals & Branding
Goals: Make the site look professional and cohesive.
- Upload logo and set site colors/fonts (2–3 colors, 1–2 fonts).
- Add photos to pages (your own or stock).
- Ensure images are optimized for speed (use Imagify or ShortPixel plugin).
- Add a favicon (small logo for browser tab).
Day 6: Booking & Payments
Goals: Let clients request walks or pay online.
- Configure booking form / plugin.
- Set up payment options if needed: Stripe, PayPal, or bank transfer instructions.
- Write clear cancellation / deposit policy.
- Test form and payment flow to ensure it works.
Day 7: SEO, Testing & Launch
Goals: Make the site live, optimized, and functional.
- Set page titles & meta descriptions (Home, Services, Contact).
- Add NAP (Name, Address, Phone) consistently across site & Google Business.
- Check mobile & desktop display, links, and forms.
- Ensure SSL, backups, and security plugins are active.
- Remove any sample posts/pages.
- Announce launch on social media/local groups.
Optional: Write 1–2 blog posts for SEO and trust.
Let’s break this down carefully so you can realistically get Happy Nose online within a week.
Take it one day at a time. By the end of the week, you’ll have a real, live home for your business online.
Whether you start with a free theme or something like Rife Pro, remember: your website will evolve as you do. You need to know what your product is — but your theme should also give you enough flexibility to expand and develop. That’s why Rife Themes are really great for creative small businesses like Happy Nose.

In my next post, I’ll share how much it really costs to set up your first website — what’s worth spending on, what you can do for free, and a few tips to make the most of every pound.
Have a wonderful day,
Ewa
